Course Description
The Hostile Environment Individual Security Training (HEIST) programme prepares participants to operate safely in high-risk environments. Through a mix of theory and practical exercises, the course provides essential skills in threat awareness, personal security, emergency response, and psychological resilience. The goal is to improve safety and decision-making under stress while supporting staff deployed in hostile or unstable contexts.

This course is designed for professionals who may work or travel in hostile or unstable areas, including:

    • Humanitarian and development workers
    • Journalists and media teams
    • Corporate staff operating in conflict-affected regions
    • NGO personnel and security officers
    • Government and diplomatic staff
    • Risk management and crisis response teams

The training combines multiple learning methods to build and develop key skills:

    • Instructor-led slides to present core concepts and safety principles.
    • Practical exercises replicating hostile environment scenarios for hands-on learning.
    • Group work to encourage collaboration and peer learning.
    • Structured readings and course materials for further study and reinforcement.
  1. Basic Fire Fighting Principles
    • Fire types, extinguisher use, evacuation procedures, fire prevention measures
  1. Explosive Hazards
    • Identification of explosive threats, safety measures, immediate response actions
  1. Situational Awareness
    • Observation techniques, threat recognition, rapid decision-making under pressure
  1. Mental Resilience
    • Stress management, coping mechanisms, maintaining focus during crises
  1. Behaviour Under Fire
    • Movement, use of cover, survival actions during active gunfire incidents
  1. Ballistics & Blast
    • Firearm basics, projectile dynamics, blast effects, protective measures
  1. Capture & Captivity
    • Survival techniques, mental preparation, negotiation basics for hostage situations
  1. Risk Assessment
    • Identifying threats, assessing vulnerabilities, planning mitigation measures
  1. Psychological First Aid
    • Immediate emotional support techniques for self and others after traumatic events
  1. Basic Negotiations and Conflict De-escalation
    • Verbal and non-verbal techniques for defusing tension and managing interpersonal conflict

 

BTS attendance certificate will be issued to all attendees completing minimum of 80% of the total course duration
