This intensive 5-day course, Project Management for Facility Management, is designed to equip Facility Supervisors with the essential knowledge and practical tools needed to effectively manage facility-related projects. From small-scale renovations to major infrastructure upgrades, facility supervisors are often responsible for delivering projects that are on time, within budget, and aligned with operational needs. The course blends foundational project management principles with facility-specific applications, focusing on real-world scenarios, industry best practices, and hands-on exercises. Key topics include project planning, procurement, contractor management, and monitoring and control techniques such as Earned Value Analysis (EVA), which allows supervisors to measure project performance and progress accurately. By the end of the course, participants will be capable of leading facility projects with confidence, ensuring quality outcomes while minimizing risks and disruptions to operations

Day 1: Foundations of Project Management for Facilities

    • Introduction to Project Management Principles

    • Types of Facility Projects (maintenance, refurbishments, retrofits, relocations)
    • Project Life Cycle (Initiation to Closeout)
    • Stakeholder Identification & Communication

Exercise: Case study on identifying stakeholders and defining facility project scope.

Day 2: Planning and Initiation

    • Defining Scope and Deliverables
    • Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
    • Time Management & Scheduling (Gantt Charts, Milestones)
    • Budgeting Basics for Facility Projects
    • Communication Planning

Tools: Microsoft Project / Excel for WBS and scheduling
Exercise: Create a basic WBS and Gantt chart for a facility upgrade project

Day 3: Executing and Controlling the Project

    • Resource Allocation & Procurement Management
    • Contractor and Vendor Management
    • Quality Assurance & Control in Facility Projects
    • Project Monitoring Tools (Earned value analysis , KPIs, dashboards)
    • Managing Change Orders

Exercise: Evaluate a vendor proposal and assess a sample quality control checklist.

Day 4: Risk Management and Health & Safety

    • Risk Identification and Mitigation Techniques
    • Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) in Facility Projects
    • Emergency Planning & Contingencies
    • Regulatory Compliance & Permits
    • Managing Disruption in Occupied Facilities

Exercise: Develop a simple risk register for a planned facility renovation.

Day 5: Project Closing and Real-World Application

    • Project Handover and Commissioning
    • Lessons Learned and Post-Implementation Review
    • Documentation & Archiving
    • Maintenance Integration (handover to O&M teams)
    • Final Assessment (Project Planning Simulation)

Exercise:

Final simulation: plan and present a mini-project including scope, schedule, and risk plan.
