Introduction to PSCAD for Beginners (Level 1)
Course Description
This course is designed to introduce beginners to PSCAD (Power Systems Computer Aided Design), a powerful simulation software used for the EMT (Electro Magnetic transients) modelling and analysis and design of electrical power systems. It has been designed to give participants with little or no experience with PSCAD, the knowledge required to build EMT models of power systems and related components, execute simulations and retrieve results for analysis. By the end of the course, participants will be able to perform basic simulations, create simple models, and understand the core concepts behind power system analysis using PSCAD.

Resources Needed:

  • Computer with PSCAD software installed
  • Stable internet connection for online sessions
  • Projector and screen for in-class presentations (if conducted in person)
  • Instructor-led materials (slides, visual aids)

  • 40% Lecturing and 60% hands-on
  • Lectures: Each session will begin with an instructor-led presentation that covers theoretical concepts and demonstrates their application in PSCAD.
  • Hands-on Practice: Participants will be given time in each session to practice using PSCAD software and complete guided exercises.
  • Discussion and Q&A: Each session will conclude with a Q&A session, allowing participants to ask questions and clarify doubts.

    Course Materials:

    • Lecture slides, notes, and tutorial materials
    • Reading materials on insulation coordination standards (IEC, IEEE guidelines)
    • Case study examples and practical application documents
