Course Description
This course will provide attendees with a comprehensive understanding of heat exchanger principles, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Engineers, supervisors, operators, designers, engineering consultants, project engineers and managers, those who involved in design, engineering, maintenance, operation, and safety of the heat transfer & process equipment

Day 1: Introduction to Heat Transfer and Heat Exchangers

  • Introduction to heat transfer:

o    Conduction, convection, and radiation

o    Heat transfer coefficients

  • Heat exchanger basics:

o    Types of heat exchangers (shell-and-tube, plate-and-frame, Air cooled, … etc.)

o    Heat exchanger components and functions

  • Heat exchanger applications in the oil and gas industry:

o    Process heating and cooling

o    Heat recovery

Day 2: Shell-and-Tube Heat Exchangers

  • Shell-and-tube heat exchanger construction:

o  Shell, tubes, tube sheets, baffles

o  Types of tube arrangements (fixed, floating, U-tube)

  • Operating principles:

o  Flow patterns (single-pass, multi-pass)

o  Pressure drop and heat transfer calculations

  • Maintenance and troubleshooting:

o  Tube fouling and cleaning methods

o  Leakage detection and repair

o  Inspection and testing

Day 3: Plate-and-Frame Heat Exchangers

  • Plate-and-frame heat exchanger construction:

o  Plates, gaskets, frame

o  Types of plate patterns (herringbone, chevron, etc.)

  • Operating principles:

o  Flow distribution

o  Pressure drop and heat transfer calculations

  • Maintenance and troubleshooting:

o  Gasket replacement

o  Plate cleaning and inspection

o  Leakage detection and repair

Day 4: Other Heat Exchanger Types and Troubleshooting

  • Air-cooled heat exchangers:

o  Types (forced draft, induced draft)

o  Operating principles and maintenance

  • Evaporators and condensers:

o  Types and applications

o  Operating principles and maintenance

  • Troubleshooting techniques:

o  Identifying common problems

o  Using diagnostic tools

o  Implementing corrective actions

Day 5: Heat Exchanger Inspection, Maintenance and Repair

  • Heat exchanger safety:

o  Hazards and risks

o  Safety procedures and equipment

o  Emergency response

  • Maintenance & Inspection:

o  Heat exchanger cleaning techniques

o  Heat exchanger Inspection

o  Heat exchanger hydrotesting.

o  Heat exchanger Defects repair

o  Case Studies

BTS attendance certificate will be issued to all attendees completing minimum of 80% of the total course duration.
