Course Description
This course provides an in-depth understanding of the impact of Behavioral-Based Safety (BBS) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) in preventing incidents and improving safety culture in the workplace by addressing the human factors that contribute to workplace incidents. This course is designed to help employees and managers to identify and mitigate unsafe behaviors and effectively analyze incidents to prevent future occurrences to protect personnel, assets and business continuity.

This course is designed for:

  • HSE Professionals and Managers.

This course is structured into five comprehensive modules, each focusing on key aspects of BBS and RCA. It includes:

  • 70 % Lectures, power point presentations, case studies & group discussions.
  • 30% on practical groups and individual assignments.
  • Written pre-training and post-training assessments.
  • Continuous verbal and practical assessments throughout the training program.
  • Post-training Evaluation/Feedback conducted by participants.
  • Post-training Outcomes and Insights Report conducted by the trainer.

Module One: Introduction to Behavioral-Based Safety (BBS)

  • Overview of BBS.
  • Key principles and benefits.
  • Factors influence human behavior.
  • Causes of at-risk behaviors.
  • Identifying and addressing unsafe behaviors.
  • Role of leadership and employee engagement in BBS.

Module Two: Fundamentals of Root Cause Analysis (RCA)

  • Overview of RCA.
  • Importance of RCA in safety management and incidents investigations.
  • Common RCA methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagram, Kelvin TOPSET, TapRoot).

Module Three: Conducting Effective RCA

  • Steps in the RCA process.
  • Gathering and analyzing data & information effectively.
  • Identifying root causes.
  • Developing SMARTER CAPA plan.
  • Case Study: Applying RCA to real-world scenarios.

Module Four: Building a Safety Culture

  • Identifying and analyzing unsafe behaviors.
  • Techniques for observing and providing feedback.
  • Steps to developing and implementing a BBS program (Behavior improvement pillars).
  • Promoting a proactive safety culture.
  • Strategies for continuous improvement in safety behavior.

 

Module Five: Integrating BBS and RCA

  • Synergies between BBS and RCA to create a comprehensive safety strategy.
  • Best practices for integration.
  • Case studies and examples of successful integration.
  • Course review and Q&A.

BTS attendance certificate will be issued to all attendees completing minimum of 80% of the total course duration.
